Tips For the Internet Marketing Newbie to Relieve Confusion

As Hendrix said, “there must be some way out of here.” And not to worry all you Internet Marketing Newbies, there is, I promise. One thing we all have to keep in mind when dealing with newbies to the world of IM is that we were all there at one point and now all we can do is try to help the next generation coming in to be bigger and better than their predecessors. So to all of you newbies out there, take heart, and notes, and make the following your road map to success.

- Study direct mail marketing: I was not really aware of the connection between us and them until I read one of the classic books on direct marketing and copywriting called The Ultimate Sales Letter by Dan Kennedy. Just short of saying that you, as an IM newbie, should read everything by this man, I will say that studying a lot of his texts and others like it, you will realize that our whole industry comes from direct mail marketing. Technology has just adapted it to include the whole Internet instead of the postal mail system.

- Internet Marketing Forums:You should also hang out in and make comments in any IM forums you can find. The two most popular public forums in my opinion are Warrior Forum and Wicked Fire. These are the kinds of places that everyone you should know, study, and work with posts on. IM Forums are the main social networking area for all people in IM so these are the places for you to get known, and more importantly learn IM information from, more than you could possibly use in one lifetime.

- Blog in the IM Niche: This is the other major way Internet marketers stay in touch and learn from one another. There are hundreds and hundreds of such blogs in the IM niche and many many more in the numerous micro niches that exist in IM. So my best advice is just to read and post questions and comments on as many of them as you can find until a few of them start to converse back. You can learn a lot from other’s mistakes and you will know not to make them yourself.

- Always ask Questions: I am going to be cliché here and say that the only stupid question is the one not asked. You should ask any question that comes to mind. It will make everything easier on you when you finally find an answer to the questions that you have pondered the most. A lot of IM concepts and terms are not in any other form of life or communication so you can not be expected to know them off-hand unless taught by someone who has been there and used that. There are so many ways to make money online and so many people that have been at it for ten years or more, that someone will be able to answer your question.

I advise at this point to try incorporating all four of these tips in your IM career in the beginning. You should begin studying direct marketing and read some blogs. You should get on some forums and ask as many questions as you can as well. There is no other way to find out what sort of community you belong to and each forum is like it’s own family with it’s own way of dealing with everything. One will feel better to you than others, so get out there and find where you belong.

Home Party Plan Marketing Information – How Can Social Media Benefit My Business’ Home Party Sales?

The astute and very pleasant Direct Sales Consultant, known by the online handle The Traveling SalesWoman, asked the following question of me?

You were the person who encouraged me to join Twitter, and I’m so grateful for that! Can you share some further thoughts about Twitter and why home party business owners should join in that conversation?

Are you are brothers and sisters fan? If so you have not missed the obvious connection between Sarah Walkers’ Greenotopia company and its’ many references to social networks and social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter! And if you don’t know by now, you are no-one if you are not on twitter. I was amused to find that my vocabulary has changed considerably over the past year!

I am YouTubing, plurking, Facebooking, tweeting, blogging, linking, MySpacing, texting and a host of other things too! All these are some of the most popular social media sites and as you can see things can get pretty hairy, so I definitely recommend that you have a social media system.

Direct Sales Home Party Marketing Tip: Any task you do more than once NEEDS a procedure, system or checklist!

Before Bill Gates, no one had a personal computer! One man single handedly revolutionized the world with a dream…his dream was that every home would have a computer! His dream was to provide value to every single household in the world! Even after Bill Gates created such an incredible tool, that gave rise to the Internet, Easy Online access & E-Commerce; it STILL amazes me just how many people refuse, are afraid and/or have not taken advantage of the power of the computer and the Internet! Computers as far as I am concerned are the best social media tools (of course for the obvious reason without one you cannot access social media yep)!

I told the traveling saleswoman that social media and social networks are all about relational capital. And like any thing social media marketing is an art form. The question I often get asked by home party consultants and direct sales reps. Is why don’t they buy my product. The answer is simple, you have written a check, which came back with the red stamp mark, insufficient funds! (thanks Martin Luther King Jr. for that one).

You see people buy because:

i) they know you,
ii) they trust you
iii) they believe that you have the solution the problem which the face and
iv) for status

People don’t buy a product, nor do they buy a feature and the benefits are as they are decided upon by the story they tell themselves. Your juice drink may help me loose weight. But the story I am telling myself is that I am going to look sexy, finally that size 0 pair of jeans that I have seen on display for a year will be mine. I am going to get hit on by men….you get the picture? So if your pitch is not in line with my story…

How does all this fit into social media and social marketing? Simple, you are building relational capital, by depositing in the bank of getting to know you, getting to know all about you! And you are not only doing it with one person, no you are reaching out to many in one shot!

There are people on these sites that follow you, there are those that interact with you and those that want to see what you are about. The cool thing about social outlets is that you are King and Queen of your own little internet real estate King/Queendom!

Social media and social marketing is all about building that relational capital that gives you the all access pass to make your direct sales pitches to those who are ready, able and willing to hear what you have to say, and have the money to spend on what you have to sell. Do not under-estimate the power of relational capital!

How else do you think Pres. Barack Obama did it? I will be holding a special in a week or so about “the Pres. Obama Social Media Effect : How You Too Can Go From Zero To Hero!

How to Get Direct Marketing Customers Today Even If You Don’t Have Money For Postage

If you are a direct marketer and you are looking for a unique way to get customers ASAP, look no further. Here is an old direct mail trick that will get your sales letter opened in probably 98% of the households that receive it. Read on to find out how you can start to get local customers now, even if you don’t have a lot of money.

Do you have a service business, or some other type of industry that sells to homeowners locally? If you do, you understand how expensive it can be to mail a sales letter through direct marketing and even harder to get the prospect to even open the letter. Well, there is a solution and it’s incredibly simple. You don’t even have to write or print anything.

The next time you create a sales letter simply fold it and put it in a white, number 10 envelope (normal business-sized, not the little ones). Don’t write anything on the envelop and just place it on the person’s doorstep, in the door, tape it to the door, put it in the newspaper box, or a host of other locations. You can put it almost anywhere accept the actual mailbox. Use of a mailbox by non-postal employees is illegal in the U.S.

The curiosity factor alone will drive the user to open the envelop and want to see what’s inside. It looks like it could even be a mistake, something that fell out of the mail carrier’s bag. This curiosity factor is the key component to marketing with the white envelope trick.

Now, you will need to do this sparingly and make sure that you are not doing all of your follow-up marketing this way. This only works a few times year. If you use this too often, the homeowner will see this as regular “junk” mail. However, this is a great technique for the starving small business owner to get new customers as early as the same day you send out the letters.

You can either deliver them yourself, pay a neighborhood kid to drop them off, or hire a canvassing service to place them for you. There is always the issue of trust, but if you can multiply your efforts and you don’t have to deliver them yourself, you can work on expanding your business instead. Another way to get them delivered it to pay your local newspaper to add them as an insert. The sales letter will appear as though it came in the mail that day.
